Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

Someone I would like to introduce is Professor José Paulo Neto, a Brazilian who has a degree in social work from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (1969) and a doctorate in Social Work from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de São Paulo (1990). He works as a Social Work teacher, in areas such as philosophical, theoretical and methodological foundations of the Social Work discipline. His approach to Social Work is Marxist, so he has expertise in Marx theory, but also in Lukács. In this sense, he talks about the class struggle, class society, the proletariat, capitalism and the constant tension in modern societies. He has written books such as "Capitalism and Reification" or "Research in Social Work". I like it because it explains reification as a capitalist concept, which seems fundamental to me, since it is the basis of the current subjection system from this perspective. In this way, it helps to understand capitalist relations today, analyzing Marx and other Marxists in a modern way, but above all, analyzing these authors from Social Work.

  1. I think that Marxism from Latin American perspectives is worth a lot, it connects with our reality, although we must always be aware of not being part of colonial thought
